A hiker crosses a high rocky ridge above an alpine valley
Why I built Wegmarke

I wanted to live the trip, not scroll through it.

I love the feeling of setting out. I did not want ads, an endless feed, or a phone asking for more attention. I wanted one quiet place to record the activity, keep what I discovered, understand my sleep, and return to the story later.

Activity supports reflection and planning. It is not a medical service.

The journal I could not find

I built Wegmarke because the app I wanted did not exist.

My route lived in one app. My photos lived in another. A flower or place I identified disappeared into a search result, and sleep became another chart. The trip itself was scattered across tools that wanted more of my attention.

I wanted a private journal that brought those pieces home without turning my life into content. A place I could open with purpose, use, and close.

Chapter one · Record

Press start, put the phone away, and let the day happen.

I record a walk only when I choose. Wegmarke keeps the route, time, distance, pace, steps, energy, and the photographs I take along the way. Once it starts, I can give my attention back to the street, the forest, or the person beside me.

There is no feed waiting for me and no advertisement between me and my own memory. The app records quietly until I am ready to return.

“The best activity app should return me to the world, not keep me inside the app.”
Chapter two · Understand

I wanted sleep to explain the day, not judge it.

With my permission, Wegmarke imports sleep and sleep stages from Apple Health. Rest can sit beside movement, where it becomes useful context instead of another score to chase.

A restless night can explain a slower walk. A steady week can reveal what helped me recover. The data stays part of my private history, helping me ask a kinder and more useful question about how I feel.

Chapter three · Explore

Movement should open the world, not turn it into a leaderboard.

On a ride, Wegmarke keeps speed, distance, moving time, energy, heart rate, and the real route. The familiar riverside path can become the beginning of somewhere new, without asking me to perform for strangers.

There are no public rankings, ads, or streaks trying to pull me back. I can compare rides with my own history, learn what felt sustainable, and decide whether I want to go farther next time.

Chapter four · My own rhythm

My history should explain my life, not train an advertising profile.

Today, this week, this month. I can explore distance, pace, speed, heart rate, elevation, steps, cadence, energy, and sleep. Wegmarke turns my history into a useful view while keeping the detail close and the experience calm.

Nothing turns red to shame me. Nothing demands a streak. The picture becomes clearer because it belongs to me, not to a feed built to hold my attention.

Chapter five · Discover

A route is useful. What I find along it is the story.

I can choose Hike, download the offline map, and head toward the ridge. Wegmarke keeps the real route, pauses, ascent, descent, elevation, heart rate, steps, energy, and photographs. When something makes me stop, I can photograph it, identify it, and save the discovery as a moment on my private map.

Later, the map does not show only where I went. It brings back the flower beside the path, the light on the valley, and the thought I did not want to lose.

Chapter six · AI by invitation

AI should know my story only when I choose to share part of it.

My journal is private by default. When I ask Activity Coach a question, I choose the history that gives it context. AI receives only what the request needs and returns an answer I can accept, question, or ignore. It never becomes the owner of my life.

Control stays with me. I can use the journal, map, camera, imported health data, and activity recording without asking AI. Activity Coach supports reflection and planning. It does not diagnose, treat, or replace professional medical advice.

Chapter seven · Everything comes home

The route, the discovery, the photograph, and the feeling belong to one private story.

At the end of the trip, the activity returns to my Journal beside the route, photographs, voice, words, identification, sleep context, and private map. The numbers still matter, but they no longer stand alone. They become part of the day I actually lived.

“I built the journal I wanted to use: calm enough to leave behind, rich enough to return to, and private enough to trust.”
One private journal, every kind of day

Walk. Ride. Hike. Sleep. Notice. Remember.

Wegmarke keeps the ordinary street and the distant trail in one story, without ads, a public feed, or endless scrolling.

Walk

Record the route, then give your attention back to the world.

Bike

Keep speed, distance, energy, and every meaningful stop.

Hike

Save the climb and identify the things that made you stop.

Sleep

See rest beside movement without turning your body into a score.

The photographs behind Wegmarke

These are the trips that made me want a better journal.

I took these photographs on real days outside. They are the reason I wanted an activity to remember more than distance: the water, the weather, the discovery, and the moment I chose to stop.
